These soft, chewy chocolate chip cookies are topped with a delicate white chocolate spider web design. They deliver a ‘wow’ factor without the stress, using simple ingredients and a clever drizzling technique.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (pure)
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour (spooned and leveled)
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (fine sea salt)
  • 2 cups semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips or melting wafers
  • 1 teaspoon coconut oil or vegetable shortening (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375Β°F (190Β°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar together on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add vanilla extract and mix until combined.
  4. In a separate small bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add to wet mixture, mixing on low speed just until combined.
  5. Fold in chocolate chips with a spatula until evenly distributed. Dough will be thick and slightly sticky.
  6. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes (optional but recommended).
  7. Scoop dough into 1.5-tablespoon balls (about 35 grams each) and place 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheets.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are golden brown and centers look slightly underdone.
  9. Let cookies rest on baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire cooling rack.
  10. While cookies cool, place white chocolate chips and coconut oil (if using) in a small microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 20-second intervals, stirring between each, until completely smooth.
  11. Dip tines of a fork into melted white chocolate, letting excess drip off. Hold fork about 6 inches above warm cookie and gently flick wrist back and forth to create thin, zigzagging lines across the cookie. Start from center and work outward, rotating cookie as you go.
  12. Allow cookies to cool completely on wire rack until white chocolate web is set, about 20 minutes at room temperature or 10 minutes in the refrigerator.

Notes

Chill dough for at least 30 minutes to prevent spreading. For the web, use warm cookies (not hot) and thin white chocolate with a little coconut oil for easier drizzling. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
