A visually striking Halloween appetizer that looks like a spiderweb, made with fresh vegetables and a creamy ranch dip. Quick to assemble in about 15 minutes, it’s a crowd-pleasing, healthy option for any fall gathering.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 packet (1 oz) ranch seasoning mix
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup buttermilk (optional)
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 cup cauliflower florets
  • 1 large red bell pepper, sliced into thin strips
  • 1 large yellow bell pepper, sliced into thin strips
  • 1 cup sugar snap peas, trimmed
  • 1 cup baby carrots (or carrot sticks)
  • 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved if large
  • 1/2 cup black olives, sliced
  • 1 large cucumber, sliced into rounds and halved

Instructions

  1. Make the ranch dip: In a small mixing bowl, combine 1 cup sour cream, 1/2 cup mayonnaise, 1 packet ranch seasoning mix, and 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice. Whisk until smooth. For a thinner dip, stir in 1/4 cup buttermilk. Cover and refrigerate while prepping vegetables.
  2. Wash and prep all vegetables: Rinse and pat dry. Cut broccoli and cauliflower into small bite-sized florets. Slice red and yellow bell peppers into thin strips (about 2 inches long, 1/4 inch wide). Halve cherry tomatoes if large. Slice cucumber into rounds, then halve. Trim sugar snap peas. Peel and cut carrots into 3-inch sticks.
  3. Assemble the spiderweb base: Place a large round platter on a flat surface. Put the small bowl of ranch dip in the exact center.
  4. Create the first ring: Arrange a tight ring of broccoli florets around the dip bowl, stems pointing inward.
  5. Add the second ring: Create a ring of cauliflower florets around the broccoli, stems pointing inward.
  6. Build the web strands: Lay 8 to 10 strips of yellow bell pepper like spokes of a wheel, radiating from the dip bowl to the edge of the platter, spaced evenly.
  7. Fill in the remaining rings: Working outward, create concentric rings using sugar snap peas, cucumber halves, cherry tomatoes, baby carrots, and red bell pepper strips. Leave small gaps (about 1/2 inch) between rings so the yellow pepper strands are visible.
  8. Add the spider details: Use a few black olive slices to form a spider body on one side, with thin red bell pepper strips for legs.
  9. Final check and serve: Adjust any vegetables. Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate for up to 2 hours.

Notes

Keep vegetables dry to prevent soggy platter. Cut vegetables uniformly for best visual impact. Use the dip bowl as a guide for size. Don’t overcrowd the platter; leave gaps for the web pattern. Prep all vegetables before assembling. Make dip a day ahead for better flavor.
