A quick and easy brown sugar cinnamon oat milk latte that comes together in under five minutes using simple ingredients. Perfect for busy mornings when you want something special without the coffee shop wait.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (240 ml) strong brewed coffee or espresso
  • 3/4 cup (180 ml) oat milk (preferably barista blend)
  • 2 tablespoons (25 g) packed brown sugar (light or dark)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, plus extra for garnish
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional but recommended)
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Brew your coffee or espresso. Start with about 1 cup (240 ml) of strong coffee. If using an espresso machine, pull a double shot and top with hot water to make an Americano. If using a drip coffee maker, use less water than usual for a stronger brew.
  2. Heat the oat milk. Pour 3/4 cup (180 ml) oat milk into a small saucepan and warm over medium heat until hot but not boiling (about 150°F/65°C). Tiny bubbles should form around the edges and steam should rise. Alternatively, microwave in a microwave-safe container for 45 seconds, then stir and check temperature.
  3. Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon. While the milk heats, add 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar and 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon to your mug. Use a fork to break up any clumps.
  4. Pour in the hot coffee. Once coffee is ready, pour it directly over the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture. Stir immediately until the sugar is completely dissolved (about 15 seconds). Add the vanilla extract and pinch of salt, and stir again.
  5. Froth the oat milk. Once the oat milk is hot, use a handheld frother to whip it until foamy and doubled in volume (15-20 seconds). If using a whisk, whisk vigorously in a back-and-forth motion for 30-45 seconds until frothy.
  6. Pour the frothed milk over the coffee. Hold a spoon just above the surface of the coffee and pour the milk slowly over the back of the spoon to create layers. For a mixed latte, simply pour and stir.
  7. Garnish and serve. Sprinkle a light dusting of cinnamon on top of the foam. Serve immediately while hot.

Notes

For best results, use barista blend oat milk for optimal frothing. Do not boil the oat milk as it can become thin and gritty. Brown sugar dissolves better in hot coffee, so add it directly to the coffee. For an iced version, brew double-strength coffee, let cool, pour over ice, and use cold frothed oat milk. The brown sugar and cinnamon mixture can be pre-mixed and stored in a jar for quick mornings.
