These adorable mummy-wrapped pigs in a blanket are the perfect Halloween appetizer—quick, easy, and made with just three simple ingredients. Flaky puff pastry wrapped around mini hot dogs with mustard eyes creates a spooky snack that disappears in minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 sheet (about 9×9 inches) puff pastry, thawed OR 1 can (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
  • 12 mini hot dogs or cocktail sausages
  • 1 large egg, beaten with 1 tablespoon water (for egg wash)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds or poppy seeds (optional)
  • Yellow mustard or sriracha (for the mummy eyes)
  • Ketchup, honey mustard, or ranch dressing (for dipping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Prepare your pastry. If using puff pastry, thaw according to package directions. Unfold on a lightly floured surface and cut into 12 long strips, each about ¾ inch wide. If using crescent dough, unroll, press seams together, and cut into strips.
  3. Wrap the sausages. Take one strip of dough and wrap it around a mini hot dog, leaving small gaps between wraps to create a mummy effect. Don’t wrap too tightly. Repeat with all 12 sausages.
  4. Place on the baking sheet, spacing them about 1 inch apart.
  5. Apply the egg wash. Brush the tops of each mummy with the egg wash. Sprinkle with sesame or poppy seeds if using.
  6. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until pastry is puffed and golden brown. If using crescent dough, check at 10 minutes.
  7. Cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes.
  8. Add the eyes. Using a toothpick, dip into yellow mustard or sriracha and dot two small eyes onto each mummy.
  9. Serve immediately with dipping sauces on the side.

Notes

You can assemble these up to 4 hours ahead and refrigerate. Add egg wash right before baking. For freezing, arrange unbaked mummies on a baking sheet, freeze until solid, then transfer to a freezer bag. Bake from frozen, adding 2-3 minutes to the baking time. If dough tears, just press it back together—the egg wash will seal it during baking.
