A quick and easy small-batch bourbon eggnog recipe that comes together in under 10 minutes. Perfect for cozy nights, date nights, or holiday gatherings, this creamy, rich eggnog uses simple ingredients and delivers a luxurious texture.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 large eggs, separated
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar, divided
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 2 to 3 ounces bourbon (such as Maker’s Mark or Buffalo Trace)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Freshly grated nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Separate the eggs while cold, placing yolks in a medium bowl and whites in a small bowl.
  2. Beat the yolks with 1 tablespoon sugar until pale and thick, about 2 minutes.
  3. Add bourbon, milk, cream, and vanilla to the yolks. Whisk gently until combined.
  4. In a clean small bowl, beat the egg whites with remaining 1 tablespoon sugar and a pinch of salt until soft peaks form, about 3-4 minutes.
  5. Fold about one-third of the whites into the yolk mixture to lighten, then gently fold in the remaining whites until no white streaks remain.
  6. Chill for at least 30 minutes (or up to 2 hours) to let flavors meld.
  7. Serve in two glasses, garnished with freshly grated nutmeg and optionally a cinnamon stick or whipped cream.

Notes

Use pasteurized eggs if concerned about raw eggs. For best texture, whip egg whites to soft peaks only. Chilling is recommended but not required. Bourbon amount can be adjusted to taste (2 oz for mild, 3 oz for stronger). Fresh nutmeg makes a significant difference.
