Recreate the famous coffee shop drink at home with this quick and easy recipe. Made with simple ingredients and a mason jar, it delivers the same creamy, frothy, and perfectly sweetened experience in under 5 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 shots (about 2 ounces) strong brewed espresso or 1/2 cup strongly brewed coffee
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar syrup
  • 1 cup oat milk (barista-style recommended)
  • 1 cup ice cubes
  • Optional: 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: Pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for garnish

Instructions

  1. Brew your espresso or coffee. You’ll need about 2 ounces of espresso or 1/2 cup of strongly brewed coffee. Let it cool for a minute or two.
  2. Add the brown sugar syrup to your mason jar or shaker. Pour in 2 tablespoons of syrup. If using vanilla extract, add it now.
  3. Pour in the hot espresso or coffee. The heat will help the syrup dissolve completely. Give it a quick stir with a spoon to combine.
  4. Add the ice cubes. Fill your shaker or jar with 1 cup of ice.
  5. Secure the lid tightly.
  6. Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds. When you open the lid, you should see a beautiful layer of foam on top.
  7. Fill your serving glass with fresh ice.
  8. Pour the shaken espresso over the fresh ice.
  9. Top with oat milk. Pour slowly to create layers. About 3/4 cup should do it, but adjust to taste.
  10. Stir gently. Garnish with a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg if desired.
  11. Enjoy immediately.

Notes

For best results, use barista-style oat milk and large ice cubes. Shaking is essential for creating the frothy layer. Brown sugar syrup can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Adjust sweetness by starting with 1 tablespoon of syrup and adding more to taste.
