This incredibly easy buffalo chicken dip requires just four ingredients and a slow cooker. Dump everything in, walk away, and come back to a creamy, spicy, perfectly dippable appetizer that’s perfect for game day, parties, or a quick weeknight snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 ounces cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup (8 ounces) buffalo sauce (such as Frank’s RedHot)
  • 2 cans (12.5 ounces each) canned chicken, drained
  • 2 cups (8 ounces) shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Take cream cheese out of fridge about 20 minutes before starting. If forgotten, unwrap and microwave for 15 seconds. Cut into 4-5 chunks and place in the bottom of the slow cooker.
  2. Pour 1 cup buffalo sauce directly over the cream cheese. Do not stir.
  3. Open both cans of chicken and drain well. Press down on lid to squeeze out excess liquid. Dump drained chicken into the crockpot on top of cream cheese and sauce. Break up any clumps with a fork.
  4. Sprinkle 1½ cups of shredded cheddar over everything. Reserve remaining ½ cup for later. Do not mix.
  5. Put lid on crockpot and set to low. Cook for 2 hours without opening the lid.
  6. After 2 hours, remove lid and stir everything together until smooth. Sprinkle reserved ½ cup cheddar on top, replace lid, and cook for another 10-15 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  7. Turn crockpot to warm or low, and serve directly from pot or transfer to a serving dish. If too thick, stir in a tablespoon of milk or extra buffalo sauce.

Notes

For best results, use room temperature cream cheese and drain canned chicken well. Layer ingredients without stirring for even melting. Do not overcook; 2 hours on low is the sweet spot. For a less spicy dip, use ¾ cup buffalo sauce. For extra creaminess, stir in ¼ cup ranch or blue cheese dressing after cooking. Leftovers keep in the fridge for up to 4 days and can be frozen for up to 3 months.
