A quick and easy homemade snack featuring a crispy, buttery garlic bread loaf toasted to perfection in a skillet. Perfect for cozy evenings or casual gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of French bread or Italian bread (day-old works best)
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 45 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, finely chopped (optional)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper, freshly cracked

Instructions

  1. Prepare the garlic butter: In a mixing bowl, combine 1/2 cup softened unsalted butter with 4-5 cloves of minced garlic, 2 tablespoons chopped parsley, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper. Mix until evenly incorporated.
  2. Slice the bread into 1-inch (2.5 cm) thick slices. Slice fully for individual pieces or partially for a pull-apart loaf.
  3. Generously spread the garlic butter on both sides of each slice, reaching the edges.
  4. Heat a large non-stick skillet over medium heat for 2 minutes until warm.
  5. Place the slices in the skillet in a single layer and cook each side for 3-4 minutes until golden brown and crispy, flipping carefully.
  6. If browning too fast, reduce heat to low and cook longer to avoid burning. Total toasting time is about 8-12 minutes depending on batch size.
  7. Transfer toasted slices to a plate, sprinkle with additional fresh parsley if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

Use day-old bread for best crispiness. Soften butter before mixing for easier spreading. Toast on medium heat to avoid burning. Fresh garlic is preferred over pre-minced for best flavor. Skillet handle can get hot; use mitt or towel. For a full loaf, reassemble slices and warm in a 300Β°F oven for 5-7 minutes to melt butter fully.
