These sliders feature tender pulled chicken cooked low and slow in a honey BBQ sauce, perfect for game day or a cozy meal. The recipe is easy, crowd-pleasing, and delivers a sweet and smoky flavor.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce (240 ml)
  • 1/4 cup honey (85 grams)
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar (30 ml)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • Salt and black pepper to taste (start with 1/2 teaspoon salt)
  • 12 slider buns
  • Optional toppings: coleslaw, pickles, sliced jalapeΓ±os

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine BBQ sauce, honey, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Whisk until smooth and well blended.
  2. Place chicken breasts flat in the bottom of the slow cooker. Pour the prepared sauce evenly over the chicken, coating all sides.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 5 to 6 hours until chicken is tender and easy to shred. Alternatively, cook on high for 3 to 4 hours if short on time.
  4. Using two forks or tongs, shred the chicken directly in the slow cooker and stir to coat with sauce.
  5. Optionally, toast slider buns in a skillet or oven for 3-4 minutes until golden and slightly crispy.
  6. Assemble sliders by spooning pulled chicken onto buns and adding optional toppings. Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

For juicier meat, swap chicken breasts for thighs. Use gluten-free buns or lettuce wraps for a gluten-free version. Add cayenne pepper for a spicy kick. If sauce is too thin after shredding, cook on high for 15-20 minutes to thicken. Avoid opening the slow cooker lid frequently to maintain heat. Toast buns to prevent sogginess.
