Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (8-ounce) wheel of Brie cheese
  • 1/3 cup Fig Jam
  • 1/2 cup Walnut Halves
  • 1 tablespoon Unsalted Butter
  • 1 tablespoon Brown Sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • Pinch of Cayenne Pepper (optional but recommended)
  • Pinch of Flaky Sea Salt
  • For Serving: Crusty baguette slices, sturdy crackers, apple slices, or pear slices

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). While it’s heating up, take your brie out of the fridge and let it sit on the counter for about 10 minutes.
  2. Using a sharp knife, gently score the top rind of the brie in a crosshatch pattern. Place the brie in the center of your small oven-safe skillet or baking dish.
  3. Spoon the fig jam right over the top of the brie, spreading it gently to cover the scored surface.
  4. Place the skillet in the preheated oven and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, until the cheese feels soft and puffy, and the jam is bubbly and warm.
  5. While the brie is in the oven, place a small non-stick skillet over medium heat. Add the butter and let it melt. Once foamy, add the walnuts, brown sugar, cinnamon, and a pinch of cayenne (if using). Stir constantly for about 3 to 4 minutes until the sugar melts and coats the walnuts. Remove from heat immediately and spread the walnuts out on parchment paper or a plate to cool slightly.
  6. Carefully remove the hot skillet from the oven. Sprinkle the candied walnuts over the top of the warm, jammy brie. Finish with a light pinch of flaky sea salt. Let it sit for just a minute or two, then serve immediately with baguette slices, crackers, or apple slices.

Notes

Don’t skip scoring the brie; it helps the cheese get oozy. Watch the walnuts carefully as they can burn quickly. Let the brie sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before baking for even melting. For a nut-free version, substitute pumpkin seeds or sunflower seeds. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat in a low oven at 300Β°F for 5-7 minutes.
