A simple, bright, and refreshing mint julep mocktail perfect for summer occasions, made with just five easy ingredients.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1012 fresh mint leaves per serving (organic recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon simple syrup (or honey syrup/agave nectar as alternatives)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (about half a lemon)
  • Crushed ice (enough to fill the glass)
  • 4 to 6 ounces sparkling water (plain or lightly flavored)

Instructions

  1. Fill your julep cup or glass halfway with crushed ice to chill it (about 2 minutes).
  2. Place 10-12 fresh mint leaves into the bottom of the glass. Add 1 tablespoon of simple syrup on top. Gently muddle the mint leaves about 5-7 times to release oils without shredding (about 1 minute).
  3. Pour in 1 tablespoon of fresh lemon juice. Stir gently with a bar spoon to mix flavors evenly (about 30 seconds).
  4. Fill the glass nearly to the top with crushed ice, packing it lightly and leaving room for sparkling water (about 1 minute).
  5. Slowly pour 4 to 6 ounces of sparkling water over the ice. Stir gently once to combine.
  6. Garnish with a fresh mint sprig and a lemon wedge on the rim. Serve immediately.

Notes

Use crushed ice for faster chilling and slower dilution. Gently muddle mint to avoid bitterness. Prepare just before serving to keep mint fresh and sparkling water fizzy. Slap mint sprig between palms before garnishing to release aroma. Simple syrup can be substituted with honey syrup or agave nectar. Fresh lemon juice can be swapped with lime juice for a different flavor.
