Easy Honey Garlic Shrimp and Rice Recipe

A quick and flavorful 20-minute dinner featuring tender shrimp coated in a sweet and savory honey garlic sauce served over fluffy jasmine rice. Perfect for busy weeknights or last-minute meals.

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined (fresh or thawed frozen)
  • 3 tablespoons honey (raw honey recommended)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce (low-sodium preferred)
  • 1 cup jasmine or basmati rice, rinsed
  • 1 Β½ cups water or broth
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or sesame oil
  • 2 stalks green onions, thinly sliced
  • Pinch of red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Rinse 1 cup jasmine rice under cold water until water runs clear. Add rice and 1 Β½ cups water or broth to a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat, then lower heat to simmer, cover, and cook for 15 minutes. Remove from heat and let sit, covered, for 5 minutes.
  2. While rice cooks, whisk together 3 tablespoons honey, 3 tablespoons soy sauce, 4 cloves minced garlic, and 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice in a small bowl. Set aside.
  3. Heat 2 tablespoons olive or sesame oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add shrimp in a single layer and cook for 2 minutes on one side until pink and slightly golden. Flip shrimp and pour honey garlic sauce over them. Stir to coat evenly. Cook for another 2-3 minutes until sauce thickens and shrimp are fully cooked.
  4. Fluff cooked rice with a fork and plate it. Spoon honey garlic shrimp and sauce over rice. Sprinkle sliced green onions and red pepper flakes if using. Serve immediately.

Notes

Do not overcrowd the pan when cooking shrimp to avoid steaming instead of searing. Keep heat medium to medium-high to prevent garlic from burning. Add sauce after shrimp is seared for best texture. Reheat leftovers gently in a skillet over low heat to maintain sauce texture.
