A quick, satisfying, and affordable hot dog recipe perfect for busy weeknights or casual gatherings. This recipe features juicy hot dogs, toasted buns, and a simple homemade sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8 beef or pork hot dogs
  • 8 soft hot dog buns (white or whole wheat)
  • 2 tablespoons yellow mustard
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons relish (sweet or dill)
  • Β½ small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • Optional toppings: shredded cheddar cheese, sauerkraut, jalapeΓ±o slices, pickles

Instructions

  1. Preheat your skillet over medium heat. Spread softened butter evenly on the inside of each hot dog bun.
  2. Place the buns buttered-side down in the skillet. Toast gently until golden brown and warm, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. While the buns toast, add the hot dogs to the skillet. Cook for about 5-6 minutes, turning occasionally until browned and juicy.
  4. Mix yellow mustard, ketchup, and relish in a small bowl to prepare the quick sauce.
  5. Assemble the hot dogs by placing each in a bun, spooning the sauce on top, sprinkling with chopped onions, and adding any optional toppings.
  6. Serve warm with your choice of sides such as chips, coleslaw, or salad.

Notes

Do not boil hot dogs to avoid sogginess. Butter buns before toasting for a golden crunch. Use tongs gently to keep hot dogs juicy. Toast buns just before serving to keep them warm and crisp. Sauce can be made ahead and refrigerated.
