A simple and delicious glaze made with brown sugar, honey, and Dijon mustard or apple cider vinegar that creates a sticky, caramelized finish perfect for holiday hams.

Ingredients

Scale
  • Β½ cup (100g) brown sugar (light or dark)
  • ΒΌ cup (80g) honey (raw or clover honey recommended)
  • 1 tablespoon (15ml) Dijon mustard or apple cider vinegar (optional but recommended)

Instructions

  1. Measure Β½ cup brown sugar, ΒΌ cup honey, and 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard or apple cider vinegar.
  2. Combine all ingredients in a small saucepan over medium-low heat.
  3. Stir gently with a whisk or spoon to blend sugars and liquids.
  4. Heat slowly, stirring frequently to prevent sticking or burning, until the mixture dissolves and thickens, about 5 minutes.
  5. When the glaze starts to bubble lightly and becomes shiny and slightly syrupy, remove from heat.
  6. Allow to cool slightly; it will thicken more as it cools.
  7. Using a basting brush, generously apply the glaze over the ham’s surface.
  8. If baking, repeat glazing every 15–20 minutes to build a sticky, caramelized crust.
  9. Optional: For a crispier finish, broil the glazed ham for 2–3 minutes at the end, watching closely to avoid burning.

Notes

Keep heat low to avoid burning sugar. Stir often for smooth consistency. Brush multiple times for best caramelized crust. Warm glaze gently if it thickens too much. Optional broil for crisp finish. Substitute maple syrup for honey and coconut sugar for brown sugar for vegan/gluten-free version.
