Easy 10-Minute Caprese Skewers Recipe for Perfect Fresh Appetizers

These Caprese skewers are a quick, fresh, and delicious appetizer featuring cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, and basil leaves, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 20 cherry tomatoes, washed and dried
  • 20 small fresh mozzarella balls (bocconcini), drained
  • 20 fresh basil leaves, washed and patted dry
  • 2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic glaze (optional)
  • Pinch of flaky sea salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • About 20 wooden skewers or toothpicks, soaked in water for 10 minutes

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry cherry tomatoes and basil leaves thoroughly. Drain mozzarella balls well to avoid watery skewers. (About 5 minutes)
  2. Optional: Halve the cherry tomatoes using a sharp knife on a cutting board for smaller bites and to release some juices. (2 minutes)
  3. Assemble the skewers by threading one cherry tomato, followed by a folded basil leaf, a mozzarella ball, and finishing with another cherry tomato. Repeat until all skewers are assembled. (5 minutes)
  4. Arrange the skewers on a serving platter. Drizzle generously with extra virgin olive oil, then sprinkle with flaky sea salt and freshly ground black pepper. If using, drizzle balsamic glaze lightly over the top. (2 minutes)
  5. Gently shake the platter to evenly distribute any seasoning. Taste one skewer and adjust salt or pepper if needed. (1 minute)
  6. Serve immediately to enjoy the fresh, crisp texture. If preparing ahead, cover and refrigerate for up to 2 hours, adding olive oil and seasoning just before serving.

Notes

Pat mozzarella dry to prevent slipping on skewers. Assemble close to serving time to keep basil fresh. Soak wooden skewers before grilling to prevent burning. For vegan option, substitute mozzarella with vegan cheese pearls or marinated tofu cubes. Balsamic glaze is optional but adds a nice tangy-sweet finish.
